Up Close is an independent guide to Metro Vancouver casinos. Paid links on the home page bring it a commission, and every such link is labelled Ad.
Where the Ad links are
Only one page here carries paid links: the home page. Every such link carries an Ad label. Of the three, one is in the menu, a second sits in a block straight below the first screen, and the last is near the bottom of the page. No venue page carries a paid link.
One private online casino partner receives all three. The site is paid a commission by this partner. Since that partner can be replaced, its name and any account of the operator stay off this page.
That partner is not PlayNow.com. In British Columbia, the provincial government must run any gambling for it to be legal. BCLC, a Crown corporation, operates PlayNow.com, the single site where online gambling is legal in B.C. No provincial licence covers the partner.
What is never paid
No venue pays this site, and the same holds for TransLink, PlayNow, BCLC and the help services the guide points to. Links to a venue's own pages, where the hours, parking and transit facts are checked, are not paid links. Readers get no rewards from the site, and following a link brings nothing in return.
No account is needed to read any page. Up Close carries no forms, comments or newsletter. Whatever you enter stays with you. Each page view is logged by a cookie-free counter, and an outside tool that tallies visits gets your device's network address, browser type and the page name. A theme choice is kept only in the browser tab, nowhere else.
